Throughout this tutorial we'll
be showing you how to change a file's name, how to copy or move it and
how to delete it.
Renaming
-
From the Windows Microsoft® Explorer
go into the My Pictures folder
and right
click on an image file.
Now you can type in a new name
for your image!
-
type in the new name, hit the Enter
key
And you're done!
Copying
We'll copy an image from the My
Pictures folder to the My Music folder. This is not particularly
rational, but it serves the purpose of illustrating copying so bear with
us!
To copy...
-
right click on the image's name
(the file) and click on Copy.
-
Go into the My
music folder
and from the Microsoft® Windows Explorer
menu
-
click on Edit
and
then click on Paste
.. and you're done!
Moving
To move a file from a folder to another,
repeat the steps of the copying example, however, instead of selecting
Copy
select Cut
when
right-clicking on the file.
Whenever you
move a file from one folder to another, unlike copying, the file is only
listed in the new folder.
Deleting
Now we'll delete the image we copied
from the folder My Music since we have no reason for saving image files
there.
From the My Music folder
-
right click on the image and highlight
and click on Delete
A dialogue box will appear...
...and the image is gone!
-
Go into the Recycle
bin
folder (at the end of your folders listing)
.. and note that your image is
there. Each time you delete something, it goes into the Recycle Bin
folder. As such, if you delete something by accident, you can always right
click
the file and highlight and click on Restore to "cancel" the deletion!
Then again, if you want to erase the
file permanently...
-
click on File êon the Microsoft®
Windows Explorer menu and highlight and click on Empty Recycle Bin
...and you're done!
Now you know
how to rename, copy, move and delete a file!
