Change your Windows® Screen Saver!

Some of you may be wondering.... "What exactly is a Screen Saver?"  As its name suggests, a screen saver's function is to protect your screen from damage.  You may have noticed that whenever you leave your computer on without using it, after some time your screen goes blank or certain visual "effects" may appear.  That's your Screen Saver!

Computer monitors like anything suffer the effects of time... By properly setting your Screen Saver you can ensure a longer fault-free period for your monitor!

To make adjustments to your Screen Saver

  • click the  button
  • highlight Settings, then highlight and click on Control Panel
  • Double click on Display ....

...and the "Display Properties" window will appear.

  • click on the Screen Saver tab...

...and you will see your Screen Saver settings.

  • Click on the the Screen Saver drop-down list arrow and make a selection...

Your new selection will appear in the Screen Saver preview window.  You can see a full screen preview of the Screen Saver if you...

  • click on the Preview button
To return to Windows
  • press any key or move your mouse
Switch between Screen Savers until you find one you like.  Theoretically, the Screen Saver that is best for your monitor is the "Blank Screen".  As long as you are not overly protective, select something more interesting!

One more adjustment and we are done!  Look at where it says Wait.  How much time is indicated?  In our example it's one hour.  This time is the time it will take for the Screen Saver to kick-in on an open computer that isn't being used.  In other words, you decide how long this period is.  Most users like to set the Screen Saver wait period from 5 to 20 minutes.

To change the wait period

  • click on one of the arrow-buttons, keeping the mouse button pressed
When you've adjusted the wait period
  • click on the OK button
and you're done!

Now you know everything you need to know about Screen Savers!!!
